Men, Beer Belly Be Gone, But You Can Keep Your Beer!

By Dorthy Weatherbush

Men are you tired of hearing about how flat your stomach used to be and how the heaviest thing you lift now is your gut over your belt? If so, thats about to change, as I (drum roll please) am about to show you How to Get Rid of the Beer Belly without Giving Up Beer! Now let's get down to defining what a beer belly really is and determine if it is really caused by beer.

Let us first define what a beer belly is. By definition, a beer belly is an area of fat that is positioned between your chest and your waist, or what used to be your waist. Now, is it cause by beer? The surprising answer is no. Science has proven that beer bellies are caused by calories that haven't been burned up by your body that get deposited to that section of your body. Why is it deposited there? Men are genetically dispositioned to deposit the greatest amount of their fat in their stomach area.

Now that you know where your beer belly reallly comes from (probably that fried chicken you've been eating) you get start figuring out what you, if anything, you are going to do to get back in shape. You can begin by working on the fat cells that are multiplying in your stomach. While beer is not the direct cause of your belly, it can contribute. Alcohol can make you hungrier (think about your last time at happy hour at a local bar). So if you stopped drinking as much, you'd be taking a step in the right direction.

Lose the beer and you can also lose that increased appetite. But this article isn't about getting rid of the beer; it's about getting rid of the belly, so I won't tell you to stop drinking. You could also exercise and burn more calories than the amount of calories you take in from drinking beer. But exercise too may sound like a lot of hard work. So for the purposes of this article, we will focus on the best beers for your belly!

The first thing that probably comes to mind when you think of low calorie beer is the light beers that don't taste very good. This article was written for real men who would never dream of drinking one of those girly light beers.

First we have the nice and dark Guiness Draught; this beer is not light and with only 125 calories and 10 carbs, you don't have to worry about your belly. It's also full of flavor so you don't have to drink tons to make up for a bad taste. Second we have Beamish Irish Stout; it's light on calories with only 131. Finally, we have Busch which only has about 133 calories and around 10 carbs. So drink responsibly and get rid of that gut!

So now you have the key to getting rid of your beer belly without having to but down the bottle. So the next time your wife or girlfriend tells you to get off the couch and lose some weight, go grab yourself another cold one, pop the bottle open and tell her you're working on it now! - 31494

Dwight Howard Has a 39 Inch Vertical Leap - Here is His Workout

By Brayden Fisher

Dwight Howard is 6"11 and weighs more than 260 pounds. He is definately a force in the NBA and gives defenders problems. Although, this wasn't the case his rookie year. Since then he has taken his workouts seriously and gotten MUCH stronger. To prove my point, let's take a look at his bench press numbers. Dwight Howard has improved his bench from 185 to 360 since his rookie season. Those are some pretty impressive numbers. So how was he able to do this? Let's find out...

Joe Rogowski, the personal trainer of Dwight Howard, has to be given a lot of the credit for the strength gains Dwight has gotten. He has given him workout routines that focus on gaining muscle mass and improving explosive power. Joes says that one of the key elements is to consistently change up the workout routine. This will shock the muscles and they will not be able to adapt to the same workout. Joe sets Dwight Howard up on a combination of plyometric and strength workouts. The plyometrics help Dwight's speed and agility and heavy weight training will help him gain strength and power. A few of the most important exercises that Joe has Dwight Howard do are listed below...

Bench Press - Dwight mixes this up using the straight bar and dumbbells. Rogowski likes to have Dwight perform the pyramid routine. The pyramid he uses is 10-8-6-4-2.

Leg Press - Dwight has back hyperextension therefore, Joe prefers to use the Leg Press machine instead of free weight squats. He doesn't want to risk any injury to Dwight's back. Dwight can still lift very heavy weight and keep his back from injury by using the leg press machine.

The Perfect Push Up - Dwight purchased the perfect push up handles and he like to use them in the comfort of his own home. He integrates his push up workout routines with his video game playing. For example, if he is playing a boxing game, he rips out a set of push ups each time he defeats an opponent. Every time he dies in a role playing game he pumps out another set and does as many push ups as he can.

Dwight Howard has an impressive 39" vertical leap. Joe Rogowski incorporates plyometric exercises and speed drills into Dwight's workout routine as well. This keeps him flying above the rim so he can continue to throw down those impressive SUPERMAN DUNKS! A few of his favorite exercises to increase his vertical leap include box jumps, sprints and the jump rope.

Portland Trailblazers, Brandon Roy Agree To Contract Extension

By Ross Everett

After extensive negotiations, the Portland Trailblazers have signed All Star shooting guard Brandon Roy to a five year contract extension. Roy will be in the final year of his rookie contract in the 2009-2010 NBA season, and securing the services of a player that did no less than turn around the franchise was the teams top summer priority.

Brandon Roy may have saved the Portland NBA franchise thanks to his on-court talent and off the court class. The Blazers slumped from their glory years of the 1970's and 1980's as the 1990's progressed, eventually pulling together a roster consisting of character challenged reprobates that earned the moniker JailBlazers for their frequent legal transgressions.

With the Blazers fans staying away from the arena in droves, owner Paul Allen finally had enough and cleaned house. The new management was given the challenge to put together a roster that would not only win games, but win back the Rose City fans. The acquisition of Roy will likely be looked at as the turning point for this effort. The Blazers acquired Roy on draft day 2006 for Randy Foye, and would go on to win the NBAs rookie of the year award.

The Blazers"who were 21-61 the year before Roy arrived"posted a 54-28 record last season. Roy has become the centerpiece of a talented young team had has not only become a force in the NBAs Western Conference but has gone a long way to winning back the Portland fan base.

Roys agent Bob Myers strongly suggested that Roy wanted to remain with the Blazers for his entire career, noting that he "is one of the unique players to have a chance to have that sort of relationship with one team."

The Blazers now turn their attention to working out a long term deal with power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Like Roy, Aldridge is in the final year of his rookie contract and a key component to the teams recent success. At last report, talks between the two sides are progressing. - 31494

Determining the Number One Fantasy Basketball Stud

By Tracy Miller

Are you excited for a new year of basketball? I know I am, and I'd like to talk about the fantasy element of it. Leagues are in full effect right now, and I couldn't be more excited about it. This discussion will focus on who to draft at number one, as many people seem to be of differing mindsets this year. No one should complain, as every possibility is phenomenal.

While there are some top-notch players at the top of the pack, it may be difficult to figure out who might best suit your team. Depending on the stats you're targeting, you may want to go with one of the following players.

First of all, there's Chris Paul. He was hands down the number one fantasy player two seasons ago, and he wasn't much worse at all last year.

People love Paul's exceptional stats, especially when it comes to his assists and his defense. There's truly no one better in either area, and these stats will surely anchor a team in the assists and steals departments.

You might appreciate the versatility of LeBron James though. Having a forward who gets you 7+ assists per game is a rare thing, and it gives you a lot of flexibility at the guard position.

Let's not forget about the fact that LBJ blocks shots, shoots threes, and happens to be one of the best scorers in the NBA. At 25 years old, many would argue that his best days are still ahead of him. However, the same could be said of Chris Paul.

Others may argue that LeBron's free throw percentage is a bit low and his turnovers too high, both of which could hurt fantasy teams. Therefore, they prefer the similar stats of Kobe Bryant. While his rebounds and assists are a bit lower, everything else is nearly the same.

While most will go with either Paul or James, it's really a matter of personal preference. Anyone you choose at number one is sure you put some great stats up for your team. Good luck with your draft, and I hope you end up with that number one pick. - 31494

Discover 3 Different Vertical Jumping Exercise Forms

By Blake Helton

Do you struggle to increase your vertical at all during your vertical jumping exercises? Do you know what you are doing wrong? The best place to start is with the basics.

These three are plyometrics, general jumping exercises, and weight training. They each have their own benefits and weaknesses, and the weakness of one can be strengthened by another form of the vertical jumping exercises.

These vertical jumping exercises all have their own strengths and should be used accordingly.

Plyometric vertical jump training exercises can be a great way to improve your vertical if you do them right. They are especially effective when you train them exactly how they are supposed to: Maximum repetitions and minimum weight. This will help by improving how fast your leg muscles can react when your mind tells them to jump. Plyometrics can be the most effective vertical jumping exercises for you as long as you can do them right.

General jump exercises can be a great way to work every aspect of your vertical jump in one workout. That is because general jump exercises like lunge jumping are supposed to each have a middle amount of repetitions and weight. If you feel like you are not doing enough repetitions when doing a general jump exercise, then you should lower the weight a little bit. Let other forms of vertical jump training train different types of your vertical jump.

Do you struggle trying to improve your vertical when lifting weights? That is probably because you are not training the right way. It is important to lift a lot with only a little repetition when lifting weights. Squats are a popular and efficient weight training method. Make sure to do plyometric and general jump training equally with weight training because it can slow down your muscles. Even if weight training makes you jump a lot higher, it will slow down your muscles if it is the only type of training you do. Design a workout for you to improve every part of your vertical as much as you can.

Do not be like other athletes who have wasted their time training their vertical jump for basketball the wrong way. Design a workout specialized for you that will train every aspect of your vertical.

Train the right way with an even balance of jump height and speed. Use what you have learned to make sure you train and get the results you want. You will be very pleased. - 31494

Predictions for the NJ Nets

By Will Roper

The New Jersey Nets (perhaps the New York Nets soon) ended the 08'-09' regular season with a 34-48 season. The Nets were not a great team on the road or at home either since they had poor records no matter where they played.

The Nets happened to be 19th in scoring & 17th in scoring defense.

The Nets best scorer was Devin Harris at 21.3 points per night who had an all-star season. Harris has emerged as 1 of the finest point guards in the Eastern Conference.

Harris has spent the majority of his playing days with the Dallas Mavericks - the Mavs most likely have regrets about dealing him elsewhere because he's healthy and has bettered his scoring totals every season. The Nets did deal away Vince Carter - who currently plays for the Orlando Magic. Carter had a giant part in helping the team reach the NBA Championship in 03'.

The team is in the midst of making over their team. There are a handful questions that must be answered before the Nets to turn into a power in the East yet again. Might they move to Brooklyn?

Will they find a new stadium some time in the near future? Might they sign a big name free agent (Lebron James)? This is undoubtedly a rebuilding interval for the Nets.

The Nets do have a couple of great, youthful players they can keep and hope one day they grow into extremely solid or even exceptional players - Chris Douglas-Roberts, Brook Lopez, and Terrence Williams.

Not a lot is anticipated from the New Jersey Nets this season - they have one really good competitor in Devin Harris & the rest are simply average so far. Most would forecast the Nets win the same amount of games this year as well, 32-35 variety.

Hopefully, the Nets hold onto Devin Harris for the long haul and in due course sign a free agent to help the Nets to one more NBA Title. - 31494

Kevin Durant Will Emerge

By Kyle Martinez

With one of the worst records in the NBA during the 2008-2009 season, the Thunder weren't exactly one of the NBA's more exciting teams. Still, fans came to watch them in droves, and only ten other teams had higher attendance marks than the Thunder did last year.

Most of the source of any excitement in Oklahoma City, despite the team's struggles, has to do with Kevin Durant. Additionally, the Thunder are still the new team in town in Oklahoma City, so the idea of a major sports franchise there is till a gift to the city's residents. It's the first of its kind.

Having formerly been the Sonics in Seattle, the basketball lovers in Seattle are still mourning the loss of their Sonics, but they may have to wait a while before they'll get another NBA franchise. As for fans in Oklahoma City, they'll be happy to have their Thunder, good or bad.

An NBA superstar in the making, the hopes of this franchise rest in the hands of Kevin Durant. He could easily win the scoring title in 09-10, and should probably make the All-Star team too.

The Thunder won't likely finish with a winning record in 09-10, but they'll definitely rely on Kevin Durant as a source of winning games. He'll be the team's leading scorer, and might even be the top scorer in all of basketball.

Kevin Durant will lead the charge in Oklahoma City and should lead the team in multiple categories. Don't be surprised to see some 50+ point games out of him too. Additionally, much of the offense should run through him.

However, he's not the only source of talent in Oklahoma City. Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook are two fine players and could easily contribute to a young core full of talented players.

Don't be surprised to see Durant average over 25 points per game this season, and he may very well flirt with 30 points per game. He should easily be an All-Star this season and you never know - he might even win his team some games. - 31494

Blazers Sign All Star Guard Roy To 5 Year Contract Extension

By Ross Everett

After a summer of heated negotiations, the Portland Trailblazers have signed All Star shooting guard Brandon Roy to a five year contract extension. Brandon Roy may have saved the Portland NBA franchise thanks to his on-court talent and off the court class. The acquisition of Roy will likely be looked at as the turning point for this effort. The Blazers acquired Roy on draft day 2006 for Randy Foye, and would go on to win the NBAs rookie of the year award.

Since that point, Roy has become the face of the franchise. Roy has become the centerpiece of a talented young team had has not only become a force in the NBAs Western Conference but has gone a long way to winning back the Portland fan base. The current crop of Blazers is more likely to be found in the aisles at Home Depot or at Starbucks than in the police blotter, and the team seldom puts forth a substandard effort on the court.

The first four years of Roy's 5 year $84 million deal are guaranteed, while the fifth is at the players option.

Discover How To Increase Your Vertical Leap In Basketball

By Blake Helton

Do you want to know how to jump higher in basketball immediately by at least a few inches? So do a lot of people. The problem is that they do not know how to do it. It does not require any vertical jump training to improve strength, either. It is as simple as following directions.

Having proper jumping form can immediately increase multiple inches on your vertical using the leg strength you already have. Do not immediately assume that you are already jumping with the right form, because almost no one does without practice.

Add a little routine at the beginning or end of your workout where you practice proper jumping form. This will help you a lot because you can either tune your muscles to jump right before your exercise, or you can teach them to jump right when they are tired after your workout. Either way form practice is great for improving your vertical leap.

The first part of form jumping is getting your mentality right. You need to think that you are going to learn how to jump higher in basketball using your full potential and body strength. If you do not have your mind right, then you will not jump as high.

One and two leg jumps are the two main forms of vertical jump training jumping.

If you prefer jumping off of one leg then this form jumping is for you. The key to jumping off of one leg is to jump as quickly and smoothly as possible. Start by running forward and jumping up as high as you can using quickness and smoothness. Make sure you swing your arms to help you gain extra momentum. Once you land run forward again and do the same thing with the same form. Repetition will help you develop your jumping form the most.

A two legged jump involves a little more than a one legged jump. You want to start by running forward and then do a mini jump and land on two feet. Then, jump up as high as you can. Try not to bend your knees when you take off. Repeat this over and over to help tune your muscles to be good with this form.

Doing form jumps is a very key way to improve your vertical almost instantly. When you start jumping like you do in the form jumps you should notice an immediate improvement. - 31494
